Reason 735,378,987,506 to End Oversigning
This is a follow up on the BJ Scott transfer story. By allowing teams to oversign, the NCAA and the SEC office are allowing these kind of scenarios to play out.
"Nevertheless, while he never put it together on the field, in many ways Scott served his purpose. His commitment to Alabama in July of 2007 played a major role in our re-taking of the recruiting hotbed of Mobile, and his commitment also helped us sign several other heavily recruited players because he helped our recruiting efforts tremendously down the stretch. Scott never did anything as a player, but he helped push a lot of other kids to Tuscaloosa who have done very well."

If Nick Saban was bound to tighter recruiting parameters and was only allowed to take what he had room for, do you think he would take a chance on a kid like BJ Scott?

Good lord… NO ONE took a “chance” on BJ Scott. He could have gone to ANY football program in the country.
The kid was a Rivals 5 star player and one of the top prospects in the country. For whatever reason, he didn’t pan out at Alabama.
Seriously, calm down.

you are citing a comment on a website now to prove your point? oh man, you just hurt your initial views more and more.

The next story will be this,
Player Graduation-Sabans New weapon
Alabama player graduates, just another way for Saban to eject players from his program. Nick Saban has devised a new way to remove players from his program, he has the gall to help them graduate from college with a degree and move on with their lives.
One player was quoted, ” I don’t know what happened, i was here for years, and the coaches kept making me go to class and make good grades, and the next thing i know, i graduated with a degree from a university. I didn’t ask to graduate, but i guess that is just what happens at major colleges”
Considering that Alabama had one of the highest amount of graduates playing ball last year, it looks like Nick Saban has pushed the envelope yet again.

It’s interesting that Nick Saban apparently can’t win where he doesn’t get a huge competitive advantage over ethical schools. Pretty mediocre record at Michigan State and failure in Miami.
No wonder he has to oversign.

It’s an interesting that someone who’s a fan of a team that went 6-6 considers 9-3 not winning
December 6th, 2010 - 14:47
Miami was a pro job. What does that have to do with this?
MSU hadnt had a winning season in 6 years prior to Saban coming there and was under NCAA sanctions. He turned the school around, led them thru sanctions and his final year was 9-2. That after always being the 2nd in-state school that recruits would choose.
talking about a competitive advantage, how come UT hardly ever leaves the state of Texas? They have what, 2-3 road games a year? nice homefield advantage.

There’s no way any of you people actually have degrees from the University of Alabama.
No way any serious graduate of the school would want their school engaging in this and thus getting the school’s reputation increasingly tarnished by respected national media outlets like the Wall Street Journal.
Just a bunch of Bama Nation riff-raff wanting a football team to win at all costs, regardless of the embarrassment to the school it requires.

And you’re one of those people who results to insults when he is proven to be wrong and can’t think of a counter-arguement. If you thought a little more about your points before making a post, you wouldn’t have to worry about being shown up so frequently.
Also, are you a UGA fan/alum? How do you think dozens of arrests affect your school’s reputation? Then there was the scandal with the AD with the red panties in his lap. Talk about embarrassing.

You didn’t answer my question. Are you a UGA fan/alum? If so, how do you think all the player arrests and the AD scandal affected the image of your alma mater?
December 7th, 2010 - 10:19
graduated in ’93, thanks. every major football school has issues. ours isnt breaking any rules. as far as ‘respected media outlets’ like the WSJ, they have had a bee up their rear against Bama for a few years.
December 12th, 2010 - 12:44
Wow.
That is just sad.
Some things never change in Alabama I guess.
December 12th, 2010 - 12:46
“It’s none of your business. Aiight? And don’t give me this stuff about the fans’ need to know, because they don’t need to know. Don’t even ask. Aiight?”

Despite the shrieking and crying from SEC West fans on this issue, the nation-wide NCAA restrictions on oversigning will come within the next few years. The SEC West states will be brought into the 21st century where respectable universities and conferences already are on this issue.
Once again, outsiders will have to drag these states, kicking and screaming, into modernity and ethical behavior.
Amazing and sad that this still has to be done in 2010.

You do realize that Kirby Smart will probably be the next HC at UGA after they get rid of CMR next year. Who they probably would have this year except the buyout was to high. Smart is the main one in charge of recruiting at UA and it will probably be alright if he does at UGA if they get back to the top.
See the problem with alot of the posters on here is their whole arguement is based on their biased towards their program and their hatred towards another. Very few can make the arguement without showing their true colors.

Only if you don’t look at it from the viewpoint of the kids who aren’t ever offered a scholarship to a school like OSU or Penn St because they can’t greyshirt or risk oversigning, who must go to some low-rent MAC school instead. Then they get to watch as those teams end up undersigning by a handfull and then giving the scholarship they wanted so badly to some walk-on who never sees the field. Sure, that’s honorable.
December 16th, 2010 - 20:45
last I checked, scholarships are renewed yearly, not every 4 years. if you aren’t good enough to hit the field in 3 years, why are you consuming a schools resources.
seriously, don’t say that the coaches are the blame…if the kid is good enough and does the right things, they will be on the field, if not…well, they go to the Big-Ten schools for 6 years.

factual posts gets crickets…love this site.
guess this site just wants to spin things.

I guess it sounds unethical. And rather douchy.
January 2nd, 2011 - 09:46
This site should be called overwhining.com. Its not as big an issue as you guys make it out to be. I would say this prepares the kids for the real world. Ever heard of being ‘unemployed’. Same thing… quit whining.

I’m embarrassed for you. BJ was a 5*, played as a true freshman.
