Oversigning Cup Update – Calling for Help!
The scoreboard has been updated to reflect feedback from readers. Thanks to the Iowa and Florida people for sending in their data. We have added a small scorecard in the sidebar on the right for quick reference.
The only way this can work is if you help us - we would love to hear from Penn State, Texas, Auburn, Ole Miss, Ohio State, UNC, Florida State, Nebraska, Wisconsin, Oregon, VT, and everyone else from BCS schools.
Notre Dame has the best scholarship roster application on the Internet http://www.fat-brain.com/football/notredame.html; if there are any Notre Dame readers we would love get your numbers. Your scholarship app shows that you have 5 fifth year seniors and 15 regular seniors; of the 15 regular seniors you show 8 that have a 5th year available. We need to know how many of the 15 are coming back for their 5th year and how many, if any, juniors are leaving early. The scholarship app shows 77 players on scholarship (which doesn't sound right), but if it were, and all of your seniors were leaving, you would have room for 28; right now you have 19 recruits. Oversigning has never been a problem with Notre Dame, in fact, Notre Dame's roster management should be held has the gold standard for all of college football; it is the polar opposite of Alabama and LSU.
There are so many people out there that are much closer to these programs than we are - with your help we can really get a gauge for who is abusing this loophole the most.

Sorry, have another update for the oversigning guys. FSU has two 5th-year guys not returning.
So departures should be 12, not 10, making the budget 23, and the current number -1
January 17th, 2011 - 21:35
Florida State Update (yes, 2nd of the day):
Another 5th year has elected to graduate and take a job with the Sherriff’s office. A.J. Ganguzza.
That means departures number 13.
SPES 74
Departures 13
Budget 24
Verbals 22
Cup Points -2

Yeah, its a horrible thing they’re doing at Bama, horrible thing. They give a guy a medical redshirt instead of jerking his scholarship, leaving him with nothing. Very bad. They should do like Tuberville did at Auburn when he arrived and just jerk their scholly’s and leave them with nothing.
January 17th, 2011 - 23:53
This is not for sure 100% correct, but im pretty sure its atleast very very close if its not…
Michigan State is at somewhere around 0 cup points, they have 67 or possibly 68 guys returning according to this website http://michiganstate.247sports.com/Board/94/2011-Football-Scholarship-Chart-726235/1 and they have signed 17 guys… they are making late pushes for a lot of guys however and since the B10 has outlawed over signing, I could possibly be wrong…

Bama is ruining kids lives it’s such a shame. Saban needs to be stopped. He would sell his own grandma if it meant he could win a couple games.
January 24th, 2011 - 15:32
South Carolina is down to 30 commits as one of thier commits is changing is mind and heading to UCF.

There are also 2 former walk-ons that are currently on scholarship. They may or may not keep thier scholarships which would make the number to -3 which is what you guys dont like see happen.
January 27th, 2011 - 08:12
Auburn now has 22 commits. They are now at -4.
This is according to ESPN.com. They picked up 2 more yesterday.

It look likes South Carolina will end up with 31 or 32 commitments. They had 4 count back to last years class meaning they can sign a total of 32. They will get 27 LOI today and are waiting on the #1 prospect in the nation to sign on Feb 14.
It looks like Auburn, FSU, Clemson and UGA are closing strong and there will be some more people in the positive numbers.
I know you guys are limited but it would be interesting to see how many schools actually oversigned. And technically today for teams in the SEC, they can only send out 28 LOI
February 3rd, 2011 - 09:54
South Carolina got around that by deciding not to send LOIs to two of their committments who committed to them last summer. They notified these kids by fax less than 24 hours before signing day that they would not be receiving LOIs. There is an article about this disgraceful situation in today’s The State newspaper of Columbia, SC. ” USC Notes, Two commits do not sign” by Josh Kendall.
